30A - Final Reflection

I think some of my favorite posts from the semester were at the beginning when I was just starting to learn about different types of entrepreneurship. I feel like these were also my best posts because I was eager to start this course and I was putting 100% effort into all of my assignments. I felt like I started to struggle a bit with creating an entrepreneurial idea because sadly, I am not the most creative person in the word. However, I'm proud of myself for pushing through and trying to think outside-the-box.

I think one of my favorite experiences in this class was creating our elevator pitches. I think this is an extremely useful tool and one that will help me in the business world when I have to quickly pitch an idea to someone. I will always remember this because of how uncomfortable I felt at first and how funny it was to film this with my roommate in the room because she was making fun of me the whole time.

At the beginning of the semester, I definitely did not see myself as an entrepreneur. I didn't even know how to spell the word! But now, I feel like I definitely have more of a grasp on what it takes to start my own business and that it really isn't as hard as I would think. Although I think it would be awesome to have my own business one day, I think for now I am going to stick to business management and focus on how to manage others first.

For students taking this course in the future, I recommend them to put their full effort into this class because it isn't a ton of work and it is more exciting than a lot of other classes. I think that with this class, you get out of it what you put in. So if you want to learn more about entrepreneurship, definitely put your best foot forward! Focus on your work and set aside a day a week to crack down on all your work for this course, and you will be golden!

26A - Celebrating Failure

1) One of my biggest failures this semester was in STA2023, better known as Stats. I've always been a math girl because the classes typically come easy to be, but Stats was different. I'm not sure if it's because it's new material or because a lot of the times there are not definite answers, but for the life of me I cannot understand the class. The tests came pretty difficult to me, even with Study Edge, so it made me want to give up. However, I'm still pushing through and hoping that the third time will be the charm for the final. Luckily, the professor is giving the class a bit of grace by providing us with some end-of-the-semester extra credit.

2) Although failing sucks, I think it's super important because it helps you with personal growth so that you can improve for the future. School has always came very easy to me, so I've struggled a bit throughout my freshman year with studying for classes. This was the first course I took where I actually had to study a lot. Sadly, I know it will just get harder from here on out, so I am thankful for Stats because it is helping me prepare for the more difficult courses I will have later on.

3) As I said in the second portion of this assignment, I think failure is an important aspect of life. I used to hate failing, but I've learned to embrace it. I like to pinpoint the specific reasons why I failed and how I can prevent failing again in the future. Like I said previously, I used to get extremely sad when I failed and let the feeling linger over me for a while. Luckily, I have learned how to handle it better over the years and now, it doesn't have as big of an effect on me. I am a pretty optimistic person so instead of focusing on the fact of "hey I just failed," I instead focus in on how this failure will benefit my future. After taking this course, I definitely think I am more likely to take risks in the future. Risks can be scary, but only because the aspect of failing is present. Although it may sound weird, I look forward to failing more in my life because I know that my many failures will someday lead to a great accomplishment.

I didn't receive feedback on my last elevator pitch but I once again asked for feedback from my immediate family and they felt as if I was doing a good job and didn't need to work on anything. I did notice though that I can tend to talk a little too fast when I'm trying to be enthusiastic about my product, so I tried to slow down a little bit. I also practiced more ahead of time so that I felt more comfortable behind the camera. Overall, I am proud with the progress I am making!

Inbound Marketing by Brian Halligan

1) The general theme of this book is the shift from an outbound marketing technique to an inbound marketing strategy. It goes in depth and explains how companies should not be putting annoying ads or junk mail in people's faces, but instead spend their time creating "remarkable" content that customers would enjoy more.

2) The book enhanced the class because it taught me better marketing strategies to help my business idea get more attention and more customers. I think this is essential to entrepreneurship because when you know what a customer likes and what grabs their attention, it is easier to reel them in so they want to purchase your product.

3) I would create an exercise where students have to create a blog and list off five free marketing strategies and what category of consumers those marketing strategies would attract.

4) My biggest "aha" moment was realizing that marketing yourself doesn't have to cost money. When I think of advertising, the first things that come to mind are commercials, Instagram ads, billboards, etc. However, some of the best ways of marketing, such as word of mouth, are completely free. Sometimes, you just have to get creative!
