Assignment 2 - The Bug List
- Often times when the temperature outside drops to the 40's or less, I have trouble starting my Buddy 50 scooter. I have to rev the engine or even kickstart it for to turn on.
- A scooter does not start as well in the cold because when engine oil sits in the cold overnight, the decrease in temperature causes the oil in the scooter to thicken. Because of this, it takes a lot more energy from the battery to loosen the oil compared to when it is warm outside.
- My jeans always shrink a little after every time I put them in the wash.
- Because of the certain fabric jeans are made of, whenever they are exposed to heat the fabric constricts. The hydrogen bonds become stressed, which results in the jeans shrinking
- I am paying a lot of money to take business classes at UF, however I am not getting the full experience because most of my classes are online.
- UF has an extremely good business program which causes many students to want to join the business school here. Because of the overwhelming amount of students, there is not enough room in the classes. This results in online classes being more efficient because it allows for more students to be in each class.
- Whenever I wash Lululemon leggings, I have to air dry them which takes up a lot of space in my room and is very time consuming.
- This is because the leggings are made of nylon which is a very soft fabric that can pill easily when exposed to heat and friction. The only way to make the leggings last long is to carefully clean them.
- The left side of Broward Hall does not have an elevator so I'm forced to walk up four flights of stairs every time I go to my room
- This is because Broward Hall was built in 1954 and UF is still in the process of renovating it with newer technology such as elevators.
- It takes forever to cross 13th Street when I'm walking from my dorm to my sorority house.
- The intersection at 13th Street and SW 8th Ave is extremely busy so the lights for each road are longer than other intersections.
- The Starbucks line at Library West is almost always at least a 15 minute wait.
- Library West is a very big and popular library where students come to study day and night. Because most students spend multiple hours at a time at the library, they want to have a coffee or a snack next to them while studying.
- Whenever I get my scooter serviced at New Scooters 4 Less I usually have to wait 15 minutes or more to get it picked up.
- NS4L is one of the most popular and convienent scooter stores especially because it is located on 13th street. Because of this, most students take their scooters there to get serviced which results in a longer wait time.
- My AirPods always fall off my bed during the night while I sleep and then I have to look for them in the morning.
- Whenever I roll over in my sleep, my bed moves away from the wall which causes there to be a small crevice that is easy for my AirPods to fall down from.
- It takes a long time for the shower to get warm in the morning.
- Because of how cold it has been in Gainesville lately, the water temperature is lower so it takes longer for the water to heat up. This is especially true in the mornings whenever the water has not been heated up for a while.
- Every time I get on my scooter my side mirrors are pushed in and I have to readjust them.
- Since there are so many students on campus, the scooter parking often gets extremely crowded. When people try to squeeze their scooters into a small area, it results in the scooter hitting the other scooters next to it and messing with the placement of the side mirrors.
- My hair starts to turn brassy only a couple washes after I get it done at the hair salon.
- This is because when I get my hair done, the hair stylist puts toner in it to make the blonde more of a platinum color. After a few washes, the toner begins to wash out which makes the brassy tones of my hair more visible.
- Some of the washers in Broward Hall have a weird smell to them so I can't wash my clothes in them.
- Many people forget to leave the washer door open to dry after taking their clothes out, which results in a mold build up inside of the washer.
- The plates at lunch and dinner are always really hot and start to burn my hands.
- Since there are hundreds of girls in my sorority that have to eat everyday, the plates are always constantly being washed and being placed out immediately after being clean. This results in the plates still being hot from the water.
- The air fresheners in my dorm stop smelling as strong after a couple days of use.
- My roommate and I have the air fresheners up to the highest intensity possible so the air fresheners run out quicker than advertised.
- My checks don't go through into my account until several days after I put them in.
- Because I am from the Midwest and not Florida, the bank I use doesn't exist here. Whenever I want to deposit a check, I have to do it via mobile deposit rather than deposit it at the physical bank, which takes a longer period of time for the check to register.
- My package was delivered to the wrong address so it took longer than expected for me to receive it.
- The delivery man delivers hundreds of packages a day so he doesn't always play close attention the the address. He accidentally read it wrong, so he delivered it to the wrong person.
- I have to use special command strips in my dorm to hang up things because the normal command strips will fall down randomly.
- Because of the humidity in Gainesville, it is more difficult for things to stick to the wall. At my home in Missouri, the humidity is nowhere near as bad, so I was not prepared for this before moving in.
- My flight home to Missouri is 400 more dollars than it usually is.
- This is because I decided to come home last minute to surprise my boyfriend (only a week in advance) so the prices were extremely high.
- The tickets I bought to go to Universal Studios in Orlando in March were way more expensive than usual.
- This is because March is one of the most popular times to go to Universal Studios since many people are on Spring Break during this time. In order to maximize revenue, the company increases profits since they know more people will be attending during this time period.
Contrary to most, I actually found this assignment to be more difficult in the beginning versus the end. At first, it was difficult for me to think of things that inconvenienced me because I typically try to have an optimistic view upon life. However, once I started thinking of a few ideas, even more begin to pop in my head. I think this exercise was very helpful in getting myself to think like an entrepreneur because when I had to think of why this inconvenience was occurring, it caused me to start to think of solutions to the problem rather than just complaining. I also think this was an interesting exercise because I had to focus more on the tasks I was completing each day. Typically, I will just go along with my daily routine and not think anything about the small inconveniences that occur. After completing this exercise, I will continue to notice the small things in hopes of being able to someday find a solution to these problems.
